Protoss Zealot

I know it's been done before, so sue me
Been working on this for a bit ... kinda been neglecting it, anyways, a wire and a render so far, let me know your thoughts

P.S. i couldnt' find very good reference that had a solid reperesetation of zealots, so i decided to make it my own ... it makes sense in my head
Cheers

Hey there Tingles. I'm a big Starcraft fan, so, naturally this thread got to me and I just had to post.
These are crits I tell you in order to help you out, I'm not trying to be mean. The modeling is pretty good, you obviously know you way around a mesh, but as far as Protoss go, you have three critical mistakes:

- the waist should be extremely thin;
- the legs need to have three segments ( like the rear legs of a quatruped ), not two like a human does;
- the arms should be 30% longer;

Now, here is some stuff to help you out, and hopefully get your proportions fixed:

- see the leg style and the thin waist and the longer arms:

This here is a great concept for a Protoss Zealot:
http://www.starcraft.org/fanart/sketches/58

- and this one's the classic and well-loved Zealot image you get when you lose the game with the Protoss:

Hope this helps and can't wait to see an update!

Hey Freespace,

Christ dude, thanks for all the info, i was hoping some crazy starcraft fan would have a heap of great reference to give me
yeah the legs are gonig to need alot of reconstruction, and the rest won't be to difficult to fix up .... glad you liked the modelling though.
Thanks as well gfx.KhronoS, appreciate the comments.
Since i obviously have reference issues could you please comment modelling wise or the things that look right until i fix it up!

Thanks again!

Cheers

Two things to add:

the hand itself has four fingers, (two of them serve as opposable thumbs) (and thus, easily done with symmetry).

And, IIRC they have massive dreadlocks, which serve as psi antennae. (and that´s why Dark Templars cut them off.. both as a ceremonial and a mutunious act... afterwards theyære almost undetectable even to other Protoss)

Looking forward to an update man (StarCraft nerd myself *coughcough*

hey guys, yeah i already know it needs fixing in porporitions ... stop rubbing it in
I am in the process of gettinh those legs looking a bit nicer, once that's done, i'll get in those dreadies ...
The most annoying part is how much i had to terminate the fingers edgeloops, i originally had 4 fingers, and it looked sweet, but ... i changed it to 3, cuase the reference i had said otherwise. stupid Starcraft ...
Anyways, thanks again for teh comments, i'll get the legs outa the way, give you guys and update and see what you think,
thanks for checking it out!

Cheers

p.s. Kubi, your comment has changed my life

Hya Tingles,

I had modelled a Protoss some time ago as well and had the same problems; got fixed all the typically Areas which a protoss would have, but did not finished the model so far. But it has the proportions it needs (but I altered the anatomy a fair bit) and might help you checking it out:

http://www.tnovelist-ent.com/Sites/p...site_tanin.htm

And one more crit (don't be angry with me): The Skull of your protoss has a lot of a human skull - but a Protoss has something like a snout which is pretty lenghtning the face itself... would be a good thing to change that too
