Speed Modelling Challenge 136 & 137 - Wind Chimes

1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.

How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified.

2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified.

3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified.

4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified.

5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images files. Larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified.

6, The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time.

7, Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable.

8, Posting the same entry twice in a challenge will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one.

These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions

Time limit - 60 minutes
Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 21st of February 2007
Subject - Wind Chimes

Wind Chimes: Well as everyone knows... there is a war going on. So to make things a little more calm... we're looking for some soothing Wind Chimes to tickle the air around our ears.

Have Fun and Good Luck!

My Starter...

Marty_McFly-3DT - Very nice starter, simplistic modelling using your primitive objects very effectively here. Lovely natural lighting also and a great gold material. Very calming and a sweet render.

Another 2 week SMC then, this will need some research. Nice topic idea

I look forward to seeing people's entries and lot and lots of people entering too I hope.

Good Luck To All Who Enter!

Kind Regards

Classic Gamer

Yes, you are, and I don't understand your logic. You wasted up a lot of time.

I share your confusion Phantom... I too am wondering why Pablo would intentionally submit such an entry?

I'd also like to welcome Jum to the challenge... but please read all the rules again because as your entry stands right now... it is not valid.

He he that means that I m going to make better entries.... that one was just for practice. For me, there is no waste of time while practising.

And practice makes excellence... that is my logic

Hope to see your entries Phantom
.... oh and Jum... put a wireframe on your entry.

I haven't been here in a long time. Kind of slow at work today though so...

This is one of those wind-chimes made of old silverware. You hammer the pieces flat for the hanging ones and you bend up a fork for the top! I made one of these once Hope you like it.

Classic Gamer - Wind Chime Entry #01

First entry from me then, this one is fairly straight forward, however I did have to think a few minutes to figure out exactly how to model the logo. I'm pretty happy with this, i've render a kind of winter & summer style outdoor wind chime.

All relevant information on the composite render. 2nd entry coming up next.

Kind Regards

Classic Gamer

Classic Gamer - Wind Chime Entry #02

2nd entry here then. This was alot of fun to make, after searching on google and the like for references I came across a wind chime like this and really liked the shape that this has. So I thought I just had to give it a go.

Again all relevant info on the composite render.

Kind Regards
