As I just mentioned in an email to a friend, I am a huge fan of the original - it exemplified inspired moviemaking on a limited budget. The problem there is that once it becomes a cult hit, it tends to attract attention from the big boys that can smell money (or the potential for it,) a mile off. Not a problem in itself, but what tends to happen is that they throw lots of money at it & all the creative solutions they needed to come up with to counteract budget problems suddenly dissapear. Add to that the 'input' of people like marketing & pr people who convince them that what they need to appeal to a wider audience is a strong male lead & a love interest angle with a 'girl next door' (Ha!) type of actress, along with 'some of that cg stuff and explosions', because joe public love that ****, and you have a recipe for a hollywoodified version of the original, which is to say a watered down, dumbed down version where all the best parts that made you think or interact with the film in anyway are left out to be replaced by ****ty writing that they try to compensate for by adding obvious and unecessary cg effects.
From what I can see from the trailer, it looks like this will either be ok, or else it will turn out to be along the lines of what I described above. For a start it looks like the cg shot count is up, (even for a fan of 3d like myself, this is not always a good sign & usually the 1st warning sign of hollywoodification. (Love that term. Feel free to use it.) & secondly, (excusing my grammer there,) the sets don't look half as good as the original, now looking overly minimalistic & possibly over-designed...
Anyway I will be interested to see it, just fingers crossed that its good.

Shame on me, I haven't seen the original yet, but friends have toild me it's a very good movie. The sequel looks very "too-much-CG", but I like that I will rent the original ASAP.

Tom: It's sad Better hope this one doesn't becomes yet another victim of Hollywoodification.

The first film was great considering the budget. The storyline was definantly cool...The sequel has been getting fairly negative reviews stateing it's the same basic plot as the first with different characters and a different environment. Sounds like another sequel is going to ruin what could have been a great stand alone movie. I also heard of a possible TV series based on these movies....so you know its going downhill...

I really liked the original Cube. It was fresh, different, and well done on a shoestring budget.

I liked the irony of the ending on it.
BTW, was the young math student girl the same actress who played "Dax" on the final season of DS9? -looked alot like her.

This new one looks like a remake...with Matrix-like added effects.

Doesn't seem like a true sequel.

I saw it. I liked when it exited the cude at the end, though past that was a little wierd and disapointing. You're unsure what is going to happen next. Of course, there was a psycho, who got to kill a couple copies. I thought it was pretty good, other than the end. Don't believe the crazy women!!!!

I saw it and i thought it was terrible. It missed what made the first Cube so good...None the less the ending was cool.
