Question from Eric Knisley - Is the plugin available for any other versions of 3dsmax
I saw your BlueCherry plugin linked from the 3DTotal.com page and was
interested. I am an animator in Essex where I work for a company that makes a large 3D display system (see our website below). I'm always looking for more and better image plugins and thought yours looked interesting. My question: is the plugin available for any other versions of 3DS MAX besides version 8+? Thanks very much, and good luck with your product. Cheers, --ek PS: if you ever do any plugins for producing spherical or "fisheye" type images, please do let me know. Cheers. |

What a great question! The reason we did not publish a version of BlueCherry for older versions of 3dsMax is a rather simple one. A lot of the advanced functionality in BC, and all of the Ambient Occlusion features, rely on certain MaxScript functionality that was not incorporated into the program until R8 and R9. I know this seems awkward, but it's true- 3dsMax functionality is usually 1 or 2 releases ahead of MaxScript incorporation. If demand is high enough, we'll try to create a version for 3dsMax 7. Finally, I believe you should be able to use the "warp" render shader for "Lens" camera shaders under the Mental Ray Renderer Rollout > Camera Effects. Drag the shader into the material editor, and change it to "Barrel" and give it a high amount. That might be the effect you're looking for. Hope that helps!
