Hey-
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a glossary of Max terms? Somewhere where it tells you how to pronounce the words, and/or the actual definition of some of the terms? For example, there always seems to be an ongoing debate on whether "Euler" is pronounced "You-ler" or "Oil-er". Does this information exist somewhere?

You pronounce it you-ler and it is about radiants...Don't worry about it it's purely mathematical (radiants and sinusoidal function... arrgh... boring !
) ...I don't really know where you could find such a thing but max help is a good reference ![]()

actually in my experience i've heard that its not pronounced you-ler but oil-er. anyhow i agree with you h, it would be a great to have a glossary of terms of 3d and what they mean and how they are pronounced. there's a lot of theory that's not readily apparent in a help file, the gimbal lock is an example of that. or is it gimble i forget.

FYI
Ok, I just asked Jeeves ...I actually found a "Pronunciation Guide to Mathematicians"....here's what it said: Euler, Leonhard (1707-1783) (OI ler) Still, I wish I didn't have to go hunting every time.... (it WAS kind of fun to say, "Euler? Euuuuler?" like Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off). ![]()

Okay then, how do you pronounce Boolean? Is it Boo-Lee-en? Boo-lean? Bool-een?

Ok, more info....
I found a High-Tech Dictionary.... Boolean= Having two possible values (such as 0 or 1, on or off, true or false).Referring to a system of algebra and logic developed by English mathematician George Boole. Which leads me to think it might be "BOOL- e - an", but it didn't actually say....

Well me & Shaun did try to start a glossary way back when, but no one was interested...
(Yes I'm rolling that one out again fight fans!)Maybe we ought to think about ressurecting it, this time with pronunciation guides. Those so far: Oil-er Bool-ee-an, (emphasis on the ee) fill-ay sham-fur |

I would pronounce it fill-et ... but that's just me.
What about Vertex? I always wondered ... VER-tix or ver-TEX ... or VER-tex or ver-TIX?

i think its ver-tex
what i always say that's wrong is vertexes, when it should be vertices (verticeez, i believe) vertex, vertices ahh who cares an interesting thing is that sometimes i ask the lead artist a question about something in the middle of working and its wierd but my mind can't seem to switch to verbal mode immediately, after everything being visual for so long, it takes me a few seconds to come up with the words like polygon and faces and edges and texture, when in my mind its all just images up to that point. i can just seem my head shifting from right brain to left brain and grinding the gears ![]() -k oh yeah, i really think its fil - et after all fil -ay is what i eat mmmmm fil-et mig-non mmmm |
