3ds Max Series 1 Need Help!

Hi when I come to create the Template boc I can't see through the box i've deleted 3 sides like instructed then flipped the 3 remaining sides put when I rotate around it none of the sides are able to be looked through! Also when adding material I can't seem to get front to have yellow face and say profile to have red face I am following the instructions exactly i've redone it about 4 times and always the same reinstalled Max and tried again still same thing i'm currently using 3ds max v9 hope you can help as i'm new to 3ds max and the tutorial seems great much like the idea of form modeling!
