My problem goes like this. Someone tampered with max in my machine. Yesterday morning, when I switched on my machine, I found it had not been properly shut down (I always shutdown my machine properly before leaving the office). And then max would not open. The max splash screen would come, load all plugins and go off and then nothing. max would not start. So I reinstalled max and every thing was fine untill I found out that raytrace would not work.
I thought it was a problem with raytrace and posted a thread here, without any replies. I found out it was a problem with my machine because the same scene would render properly in my coworker's machine. Since then I reinstalled max about 5 times (ie: uninstall max, uninstall Cdilla, delete the max folder and Cdilla folder, restart machine and then do a fresh install). Now also light tracer does not work. Someone please help me as my work is also getting delayed due to this. |

I have no idea, seems it could be some sort of virus though. If you really wanna start over you could do a format and fresh install everything, which would take a while but would be almost guaranteed to work as long as it's not caused by faulty hardware...
just make sure you back everything up first ![]() |

I had a similar problem where max would be starting and then just stop, the splash screen would come up and then as it was loading the different plugins(.dlr, .dlm, .dll) it would just disappear, I tried reinstalling max but it was no help, eventually I upgraded my OS to win2k and reinstalled max and everything worked fine. I never discovered what caused it or what really fixed it besides the new os.
That it starts up and then parts don't work seems like a virus or something has corrupted some of the files. Do you know who used the machine? Also maybe talk to the computer department at your office, maybe they altered the computer for some other reason and might be able to tell you what they did. Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be to be so close and have it fail seemingly for no reason.

Thanks for the advice everyone. But I dont think its a virus since I have Norton installed and I update it every week. Ofcourse I am online all the time, but then I dont have any props with any other software I am running. Guess the format option is the only way out.
And thanks again for the advice. |

Wait. Try turning off Norton first. See if that solves your problem.
