copying question

This regards 3dsmax. Is there a way to create an array that follows a line? I've been looking for this in the help files, but can't find it due to not knowing what the term for it is or that 3dsmax doesn't do this.

Im making a table top lamp. I want to make the support by creating a torus and copying it to a line. I guess thats what I want. Here is a pic.

I think you could also use splines and lofting.

And u could use "path deform" modifier as well
