Speed Modelling Challenge 150 & 151 - Kart Racer Pt.2
1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.
How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified. 2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified. 3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified. 4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified. 5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images files. Larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified. Until the image uploading issue is solved, you may use a file hosting service to compete in the challenge... but the image and file size requirements remain intact. Make sure to use the [IMG] tags when you post your links in your posts. 6, The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time. 7, Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable. 8, Posting the same entry twice in a challenge will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one. These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions Time limit - 90 minutes Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 30th of May 2007 Subject - Kart Racer Pt.2 The Driver Kart Racer Pt.2 The Driver: Ok, so last challenge we made Karts... this time... we make the kart drivers. It was actually my intention for the driver to be part of last week's challenge... but it didn't work out as planned. (That's why I had a "driver" in my starter.) If you are just joining us this week... then you will need a Kart for your driver. So you can model one out using the guidelines set by Part 1 of this challenge... and submit it in that challenge. You only need to post a wire for the driver this week... but you still need to have your driver in the Kart for your submission. As it was in the last challenge... Be sure to only model out the driver itself... no scenes or composites of scenes. Have Fun and Good Luck! ![]() Last edited by Marty_McFly-3DT; 18-05-2007 at 12:09 PM.. |

Wow, well I wasn't expecting that. This will be a bit of a challenge, especially If I choose to model Donkey Kong lol.
I love that little mario, he's cool. And as my first entry last week was Mario's Kart, I think I'll have to try and model Mario too. This will be a tricky one for even me, I'll need all the 90 mins for this, as i'm terrible at character modelling. I might make Princess Peach from Mario Kart though. It all depends on how much I can get done. Planning, and sketching and practicing, and planning, and planning again and again, will be needed lol. Kind Regards Classic Gamer P.S - Just one other question. Providing the wireframe of the Kart isn't shown or modelled, can I create a kart separatly for my driver to sit it? Or will my driver have to sit in one of the 3 entries I made last week? Just wondering. As I only submitted 3 Karts, and i've a few ideas more than 3 ![]()

There's that. . .
twist I was talking about. . .
Everyone was expecting the track / environment and we get the driver ! Tougher week than expected for sure. Will try to model the driver to fit within the kart's ' personality ' for lack of a better word. . . -Daye

Awesome, I was expecting this, lol.
Gonna see what I can add to my existing karts. ClassicGamer, I left you a reply in the other thread bro. ![]() Gonna try to have an entry by tomorrow, I am just modeled/animated/textured out tonight after completing my capstone project for college. Btw, if any are interested in viewing it, click on the link below and save it to your desktop, as it is a 200MB animation...but worth it I think. ![]() http://www.3d-innovation.com/capstone.wmv Please post your comments, I still have a few more days for "some" tweaking if needed. |

What a surprise ! Its a good idea.
I'd like to practice boning and posing. If I bone and pose my characters, does it counts in the 90min? (please say no !) Good luck to all! (I wonder if we're gonna have as much entries as the first part)

Time
Rigging / posing / texturing / lighting do not factor into your 90 minutes.
Spline creation, sculpting, displacement and / or normal map creation DO count towards your time. ( Bump maps do not ) I know what I would like to attempt to do, but I honestly don't know if I can pull it off in the 90 minutes we have. Will have to see. -Daye

Marty I've got a question either.
Maybe You remember that I had seat belts in my cart model. I don't know if I will model the driver but: - can I remodel only those belts to fit my driver? or - should I delete them? or - leave as they are now? ![]() |

misiopuchatek: You know... that name is a mouthful!
As for your question... since it's just a seat belt, it's ok if you delete them for your driver to sit in your Kart.Marty

You can tell. . .
by the lack of posts so far that this one is a doozy. . . . .
I cannot get the driver to look how I want within 90 minutes. !@#$!@#$ I'm going to try it within Z-Brush and see if I can get close that way. -Daye
