HDRI Calibration

When I click the Calibrate button in the Calibration Help window, the window closes and nothing happens.

The renders with HDR image based lighting are quite nice, but I would like to tweak the settings a bit, without doing it in post.

How odd! What version of Max are you using? Are there any MaxScript errors showing up in the lower left corner of the screen (Red text in the pink box in the corner)?

Max version & other info

Using Max9 with service pack 2. Productivity booster not installed.

No MaxScript errors show up either.

When the window closes, Max doesn't hang or anything. It's as though I just told BlueCherry to cancel whatever it was doing.

Hmm...If I may inquire, what screen resolution are you using?
I'm going to try to do some tests on this myself, and see what I can find. Support will be a little slow for the next week or so, but I will continue to answer inqueries as quickly as I can!

Wow, this is very strange. Your screen resolution is massive- enviable, in fact.

However, I have reviewed the code behind the calibration window, and it's as straightforward as can be. I believe I know where the problem is, however.

When you click the "Calibrate" button from the calibration window, it should prompt you for loading an HDRI file to calibrate from, and subsequently close the window and continue functioning normally. Therefore, I must conclude the problem exists in the call to open an HDRI image. Let's work from there;

Test 1:
Try doing a manual calibration. I hate to do this to you because BC is supposed to make things easier, but we should test the underlying functionality. Take a default material from the material editor, and try to apply a "bitmap" to the diffuse channel. Browse to (Root 3dsMax Folder)\Maps\fx\outdoors.hdr, and open that. It should prompt you with a calibration window, just like BlueCherry is asking for.

Does that work?

Test 2:
Try replicating the MaxScript call in question. In the lower left corner of the screen, you should see a pink box and a white box. In the pink box, type the following strip of code precisely:
Code:
 getbitmapopenfilename caption:"Load HDRI" filename:((getdir #maxroot) + "maps\fx\ ") pos:[0,0]
What happens?

I'll keep close track of this thread!

Test Results

Manual calibration works just fine.

When entering the code in the pink box, I get the following message in the white box: undefined

Nothing else happens.

Standby
I've gotten an inside link into Autodesk. Sit tight, Demplo, and I'll have a look at it when I get home from work today. I've got a tip I want to try...

Good news on calibration. Try this line, demplo:
Code:
getBitmapOpenFileName caption:"Load HDRI" filename:((getdir #maxroot) + "maps\\fx\\") pos:[0,0]
It should work. I'm cooking up an update as I write this!

Success (of sorts)

This brings up the Load HDRI dialogue and all is normal from there.
