Shadow Maps - max 5

Well, I got my 3 Total Texture CDs last week..and have been using a lot of the shadow/dirt maps extensively.
My question is quite simple..

I have one of the shadow maps projected from a target spotlight, and was wondering if there's a way to change the attributes/tiling/offset etc. as with a map in the material editor.
Err, the "trunk" of the map creates a lot of unnecessary shadowing that I'd like to get rid of.
Unfortunately, lighting is one of my weaker areas in 3D so I'm not sure if it's possible to alleviate this.

Thanks for the help.

Apply the map in a free material slot and drag it from there into the shadow map button in the light's rollout and choose instance. Now u can modify the tiling, offset, etc and the map in the light gets updated too.
