PS3 already had a price drop, so after the 360 follows, they will still be around the same price when both are fully loaded. Like mine is.

August 6, 2007 - Microsoft has just given word that it has officially dropped the price of the Xbox 360 by $50 U.S. dollars to coincide with the release of Madden NFL 08. Beginning August 8, the "Premium" system will retail for $349.99 (down from $399.99) and will still come complete with a headset, controller and 20GB hard drive. The Xbox 360 core system, which is the system only, has dropped $20 itself -- down to $279.99 from $299.99.

In "special package land," gamers with extra money to spend can pick up the Elite version of the Xbox 360 for $449.99 (down thirty bucks from its original $479.99 pricing). The Halo 3 Xbox 360 will ship in September for $399.99.

Take the Core, 280 bucks plus the HD-DVD Drive which is 180 on amazon.com = 460
Woo 40 bucks saved! If you even need the HD Drive.

Personally I don't give a damn if I save 40 bucks here or 60 bucks there, it's all about the games. Right now 360 is in the lead but I'm sure the PS3 will come up on the same line soon. I have all the consoles anyway (at the original prices i might add!). Hell, the Wii costs approximately nothing compared to the other next gen consoles and is equally fun (altho I despise the lack of HD grrr). Advice: If you want something NOW, get the 360 it has more good games. If you want something that lasts, weigh up the 360's controller vs the ps3's power and flip a coin. There is no real answer. An impulse purchase might prove to be the best!

There is no 'big deal.' I wrote the post out of jest... don't take it so personally. There is no ignorance here, actually you can say that this thread has been nothing but educational. And even being the Sony fanboy I am... I still told him that I hope he got his 360 soon and without paying an arm and a leg for it. But since I still sense a bit of hesitation on his part, I'll try to persuade him just a bit as well. Now if you'll excuse me....

I'm trying to see if the ps3 comes in a 20 gig version like the 360, then we could have a great price comparision, but I just can't seem to find it.

Last thing, will the 360 satify your lady while your away, the way a PS3 can, and baby sit your childern, wash your car, fix the hole in your roof, etc, etc?
