Quinche: Sorry for not getting this done yesterday. I got busy doing a few other things and didn't get the chance to work on it. Please note that there are most definitely better ways to do this... but this is a quick and dirty way to do it that would suit Speed Modeling just fine.
![]() 1. Start with a simple 4x4 plane. ![]() 2. Make some cuts over the vertices that will become the holes for the buttons. ![]() 3. Now chamfer those vertices. ![]() 4. Select these 4 vertices. ![]() 4b. Scale them inwards. ![]() 5. Now select these edges. ![]() 5b. Chamfer them. ![]() 6. Now select these 8 verts and weld them together. They were formed from the chamfer we performed in the last step. ![]() 7. Now select these faces. ![]() 7b. Extrude them down a little. ![]() 8. Now select these faces. ![]() 8b. Now do 3 extrudes on them. Make the first extrude by a small amount of like -.1 or something similar depending on your scale. Make the 2nd extrude bigger as this will be the true depth of the hole. Make the 3rd by a small amount like the first extrude. You're doing this to make the top and bottom edges crisp when you apply smoothing. Then if you're planning on making this all out of 1 piece of geometry, inset the faces by a small amount and then extrude them upwards to make the buttons. ![]() 8c. Perform a bevel on the top faces of the buttons to give them a curved top when smoothed. ![]() 9. That's it! Apply a material, add some lights, and render. Just make sure it looks better than mine. ![]() ![]() I hope this helps... like I said earlier... this is a quick and dirty way to do it. Marty

Great mini tutorials Marty thanks alot for that, I couldn't find a chamfer tool in C4D though so instead i've used boolean and the same 4x4 plane and then seperate buttons with hypernurbs. I think that i'm nearly the same as yours though

Hey guys
great work you're all doing on these new SMCs. I'd love to enter but I'm working 8am to 8pm 6 days a week at the moment and I havn't the time to model untill the end of the season (November) But when my work hours are reduced over then next couple of weeks, I'll try entering.... I did do a torch for last SMC but forgot to post it LOL. Ah well..Hey CG, just to let you know, you can use C4Ds bevel function on points too.. It does the same as chamfer does in MAX etc... Happy modelling everyone ![]() ![]() |

First model in a long time. I obviously left out a lot of detail... I ran out of time. I'm out of practice.
There are so many amazing renders and models this go around. I think everyone really gets inspired by video games or shiny things. So making shiny video games... Great job everyone! Oh yeah. I wanted this to be the GB Micro... Didn't quite come out that way. |

Not An Entry
This was going to be an entry, except I've been quite busy the past week. I tried working on this for 10-15 minute segments over several days. That worked great, until I realized a couple days ago that I'd forgotten to restart the timer. My time was already over an hour, so taking a guess at how long I'd been working when I noticed just didn't feel right. I knew I wouldn't have a chance to start over, so I just kept working on it when I felt like it. I don't think I'll go back to it later and add the rest of the details, so I'll just share it as is.
Not an Entry Modeling: Total time is probably around 2.5 hours, maybe a little more since I wasn't in a hurry. Software: 3DS Max

Trimyr : a shame u didnt restart the timer, very nice model, awesome render...only thing, i just dont like the way the power button and joystick look, and the L and R buttons are transparents, but so very nice!!!! i just dont imagine to make something like that
so heres my 1st entry, NES portable, seems to be like the 3rd entry, i just liked it a lot, made in XSI from primitives, rendered in XSI, hope u like
