Windows XP Professional help.

My problem is quite odd. About a day ago, I turned on my computer and the WELCOME screen comes up and all that good stuff, but all my icons have dissapeared and I notice I have somehow logged onto the wrong account. I usually use the COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR account. The account I logged on as was accidently made by...me I also set THAT account to comp admin. When I tried to delete it, it tells me "I cannot delete it, cause there must be another admin on the computer"....but the COMPUTER ADMIN! is the OTHER admin!!!!. I then log off that horrible account, and relogin to the comp admin, and then click the account, but the DELETE account option is not there. So now when I start up my computer I have to always choose an account...it is very annoying.. HOW Do I remove this unwanted account that doesnt what to go away!?

Try logging in to the accidental account, and see if you can set the other account to admin, it sounds like when you made the second account it switched admin privileges.

also maybe is a good idea is to just let it go. make an account you wanna use and just use that one. let it go man , maybe you'll save yourself some instability in windows.

beleg: what...I have two accounts, the COMP ADMIN, which is standard, and the accidental one..why would I login to the accidental one now...

kuman: cant let it go, when windows loads you have to choose one, this is annoying to leave and comeback only to see you have to click something

cycone: nope. you have to login into an account, you can disable fast switiching and the welcome screen, but you get the old windows prompt of enter password to start up.

It sounds like the Comp Admin somehow got taken OFF of admin privileges, and your other one Got them, so you go into the new one, to see if you can give the old one the admin priveleges AGAIN. This would explain the Delete button not being there, and not being able to delete the new one.

but in the user accounts, it says that Administrator COMPUTER ADMINISTRATOR. here is a pic of the problems, dont see how it would help though...

what to note

the fact that the admin is an admin
in the admin one the DELETE is there
if I attempt to change account type of the other one, the delete isnt there and I cannot change the account type to LIMIT.

and beleg, you keep telling me to give back the admin privleges, but i dont know how to do this under XP, cause it is different than 2000 used to be. and that is annoying me greatly! can you tell me how?

Go to user accounts in the control panel, click on the account you want to change at the bottom, then it will let you change the account type, and from there change it. It seems though that both have admin privileges, you might try changing the unwanted one to Limited status, or the Administrator to limited then back to administrator.
And sorry about telling you to do something you didn't know how to do, I forget that people don't always play with their system, I like to go through and see what all the different things are.

You should just create a master admin account (rename it if needed). And don't ever use it till you get into a bind. Then create a user account for your self (with admin priv). And you should be all set. Get rid of all unused accounts.

You also must have a admin account under XP/2000. Also, you should disable the guest account, very easy to hack into a computer that has a guest account enabled.

no, I have played with my system for a very long time. I am a big nerd. and I am not ashamed to say it. just I hate XP's stupid easy to use system, they tried to simply things, and then they hid other stuff, and you have to go dig it up to see it.

HAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!! I DID I!!! FINALLY I found what i was looking for to do it. You know the comp managment, and then you ccan see user and groups and edit them!! that what I was lookign for, that was the feature in 2000 that i couldnt find in XP, YES! I took the accident one off the admin props! WOHO! go me...

I'm glad you fixed it, but there are some things I do not understand. When you first install XP, it makes an Administrator account and then FORCES you to create another admin account with whatever name you use. This is the account it uses to log you in until you set it to require a password. Even after you do that, you cannot choose to login as Administrator unless you go into safe mode or in normal mode hit CTRL+ALT+DLT+DLT (that's DLT twice) or if you disable mutiple logon so that you have to type the user name each time. So this account you accidentally started using MUST have already existed. So you say that you normally would start up the computer, click on the admin account, type your password and login? How did that happen? Why did it show you the admin when it shouldn't, and why didn't it show you the account you created upon installation when it should have??? *confused*

lol. i see what your saying. And i sadly so confused everyone when I installed it, yeah it forced me to make one, and then after you make it, XP usually hides it, and just lets you use XP, so you dont have to select an account. but then I slipped up and made another account. Windows XP as it does, "hiding" the original one you entered when installing dismissed it, and sent over all admin privleages etc to the accident. I then had to go into the comp manager, and give back the orignal one (in the install) to admin privl, and remove it from the accident one.

clear it up for ya, or are you still confused.? basically yeah I had an orginal one, and yes XP "hides" it, and i created a stupid one, admin priv got jacked, redid them, deleted old account, now I dont have to choose anymore.
