September 2007 - Eyecon - Dramatic Sunset

Hey! this is my idea for this challenge, been busy lately thats why I did not know that somebody else had somehow the same idea as I have! Well too late for that now.

This is my firts full matte painting it will be fun! and I how I can see this through since I have such a hectic sched!

Ho! As you said it's a bit similar than my concept, but, I'm sure we will find details and things that will make our mattes different to each other.

Wazzup guys...

Well since my work somehow resembles one of the images being sent, I decided to change the point of view... the image will be mirrored! haha! So it would look quite the opposite of what I have here... I will post a quick image soon HAHA!.

That way it won't quite look as near as Daprado's work.

BTW my concept is based on alien and island. That 3 white streaks under the building is 3 waterfalls, I still plan to create a semi-futuristic fusion of nature and technology... I just hope I have time to finish it through or even pull it off! haha!

Oh and did I mention this is my first real matte painting? I sooooo excited!

Hiya to all!

This is an update to my work. I have finished doing the sky, but I'm not too happy about it though... I will maybe try to change it, colors and stuff. A few of the buildings are done, and the model of the main building is still on WIP stage. There are still a lot of improvements for this image, and I hope I can finish it by the end of the month (aka Deadline) hahahaha.

Hope you guys like it. Any helpful crits would be great!

And just in case your wondering, this is done using Maya, Vue PLE and PSCS2. Image size is 3200 pix by 1200 pix... and I hope thats ok... the size I mean...

Lastly, this is not the final position of the image. I might try reverting it back to its original form... im still thinking about it though...

The buildings look really nice!
Althought somehow I liked it mirrored the other way more..
But a very good job!

Just an update of my work. This is the background, since the foreground image, the big tall building, is still under construction HAHA!, I don't know if I'll do a complete 3d or maybe do a pic collage.... mmmmmm

At this point I tilted it down to make my work easier, I'll just tilt it back when I'm done. But I still need some comments from you guys, If you have any comment whatsoever, just tell me, Tnx!

I'm still hoping that I can still finish this....

looks good so far, i would move the sun a little bit to the right and add a bit of depth
btw the shadows on the big building dont match the sun direction...

and of course i hope you keep ure concept and add the bridge and right building too...

Hi suirebit! Tnx for the fast reply. When you said that it needs depth, the sun I mean, what did you have in mind? I mean I somehow cannot visualize it... do mean I need to add some clouds, make it a little bit smaller and cover it with clouds? or express the depth by adding more color variation in the sun including rays?

The comment was great and I feel that would create a much more powerful image, I just don't know how to approach it. Tnx!

And oh, the other buildings including the falls will be there in the final image!

Sun is good (apart from position), I was talking about depth in the sky - now it's too saturated/contrasted. Also depth on some of the mid/far buildings they are also too contrasted (black levels too high)

If you look at the image now you don't really feel the vastness as everything has around the same values. The values from your sketch were much better (altough even there not correct).

So thats what I was missing, I was so concerned that touching up the images would ruin it. That may be the cause why its so flat... Tnx suirnit!

Hi!

Just an update...

I have tried to express depth, retouched the sky, moved the sun and finally finished the modelling/texturing of the middle building. It still needs a lot of tweaking though, any comments will be appreciated!

youre on the right path, don't forget to adjust the shadows to match the sun direction
