Infinite Plane? And Tubes?

How do i make an infinite plane? so that it stretches out into the horizon. I know its really easy but for the life of me i can't find it!

while im here asking questions, can anyone tell me how to make curves? Basically i can make lines to curve and everything, but i remember i found a command somewhere which makes it 3D somehow? and i could toggle different settings of making it a clean cylinder or some other shapes.

I want to make cables and ropee.

i dont know how to explain it? lol

Planes - well Id just add a Plane and use the SCALE option on the parameter rollout to make it huge.

Ropes n cables - I generally use a Spline - Line - on the rollout set to renderable and set the thickness to something relevant to your scale and then adjust the spline to your needs. If you want something more complicated you could make another spline shape (an outline of your cable/rope shape) and use the first spline as a path to extrude the second shape along.

Vray has the only truely infinite plane that I know of. For everything else, I guess you would just need an extremely long plane, I always used 100,000 units.

oh, well i have 3DS Max 9 basically, no plugins or other renderers except for mental ray. Im just going through the 3DS Max 9 bible textbook, and one of the chapter files has an infinite plane and it works on my computer.

i doubt that the plane would be infinite on my computer if i didnt have Vray installed?

if you want to make a line a 3d object just look under rendering in the modify panel and check enable in viewport and render. max will make it look like an
3d object and you can collaspe it to an edit poly if you want to model it

you should find out about clipping of your 3Dcamera the far plane needs to be very far (otherwise it cuts your plane) also you should use depth of field (do that in post cos it take soooo long to render in 3d) simple blur the end of your plane.
there is always some athmosphere, dust fog or anything that blurs your surface in the distance. so it should blend in the sky or what ever touches your surface
