Shoelaces in 3dsmax4

Ok, i tried to do shoelaces i 3dsmax4 with lofted splines but it got all messed up.
I'm just wondering, is there another way than splines to do it, or is splines the better choice?

Have you tried playing with making the splines that youve put in for shoe laces as renderable, then fidling with the thickness ?
That seems like one solution.

Well, splines is the most used tool for modelling this type of objects. Though you may find these tuts useful:
