I understand that I shouldn't expect too much while spending only 4 dollars to get a great issue of the 3D creative magazine each month. However, I have been keen to learn lighting and rendering, and hence purchased several issues of the magazines from July, 2007. There are couple issues of the tutorial files that come with the environment lighting tutorials as a Maya user.
First, I have been trying to follow the tutorial using the files downloaded from 3D Total. But, unlike the previous Tuctuc series, the tut file contains only the geometry without any textures. On top of that, I did several test render with the setting taught in the tutorial, but the renders look totally wrong (too dark or with tons of artifacts). The only way is to assign a default lambert shader and render, but I can't keep following the tutorials while my test-renders are totally off from the images of the tutorials. Secondly, in the July 2007 issue, it mentioned that the first part of the tutorial is missing and will be complemented in the coming issue. But, I got all the rest issues until Oct 2007, there is still no the missing first part. It's an awesome tutorial series to me. I understand that there might be issues if readers can download all the texture files of that beautiful scene. But, it's really frustrated while reader wants to follow the tutorials but the only thing he can get is text workflow. ![]() |

Hi,
The July issue has been updated with the full part one of the Maya tutorial. Please send your email address to ben@3dtotal.com and I will send you another download. The part 1 download includes all of the textures you need. I would also recommend following the tutorial from part 1 in order to obtain the same results as the tutorial suggests. Please let me know if I can help you any further. Thanks. |
