Uninstalling\Reinstalling Max but will it delete every thing in the folder?

Like the title says I'm going to uninstall max but I'm worried that all my scenes, mat lib, etc will go too. Maybe this is unfounded, I don't think it should alter those things at all, but I'd like a second opinion before I go and erase all my past work by accident!

I'm not sure of the .mat files that comes with max but if u have saved ur materials as a separate .mat file, it will remain. Also files in Autoback, scenes, plugins, etc that we create will remain. Just dont delete the max dir after uninstall.

Ok that's what I thought, just thought I'd ask. I had uninstalled\reinstalled before but couldn't remember what happened.

yeah i'm pretty sure you lose everything. i've done quite a few reinstalls and i never remember anything i added staying, including, plugins, scripts, mat libs, all that stuff.

if you really need a clean max and have to keep the old stuff install it into a new folder and kinda take your time making sure everything is ok with the new one before you delete the old one.

good luck dude

Kuman, I just did a max reinstall last week and I'm sure everything stays. I've had lot's of maps and some scenes in the autobak and scenes dir and I got them all. Just dont delete the 3dsmax directory.

wow cool, maybe the material stuff does stay

i know that i use a lot of scripts and plugins and each time i reinstall i gotta get those again and set them up.

or maybe its just how you do it, i always uinstall max completely. and then reinstall as opposed to installing over the original folder

Blesson2k: Did you uninstall and then reinstall or did you do the repair install?

Kuman:That's a good point about the scripts, I almost forgot to back those up

Yeah, now I guess if I reinstall into the same directory it writes over everything there. Oh well

Well I haven't done it yet, I'm going to back everything up, clean up my hard drive, and defrag it before I do. Don't really need to uninstall\reinstall, everything works. Maybe I'm crazy but my computer is a mess and it's very distracting to me, although I guess reinstalling is a distraction of my own creation.

Thanks for the info
