2004 Ariel Atom II

Hi, it's my first post here to show my current work in progress. It's an Ariel Atom II, real british car, lightweight (500kg for 300hp)

The model is not finished yet. No rear suspensions, no engine, for example.

Please comment & critic. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the comment.

I didn't find any blueprints. I modeled without anyone.

If of interest, my workflow was the following :
- Setup some quicks marks with car length, width and height, wheels and tires sizes, tracks, wheelbase.
- Draw a wire chassis, as simple as possible : 1 edge for each straight part, curves for main parts going from rear to front.
- Build the chassis from refpics to get the differents radius used for the differents parts.
- Build all the components on the car, one by one, using the chassis as a reference.

Much easier to do this car without any blueprint than doing any other car, I think.

Something which would make this really stand out and add the next level of detail would be the welds on the frame. The render is nice but the highlights are too strong for my liking. The rim material could be improved. Why not use the same chrome material as on the frame ?

Thanks for the comment.

I'm currently trying to get nice looking welded frame. Hard stuff.

I will try your suggest about the rim material.

ooooooooh nice work. I really like the style though I have never seen one.
And the renders are nice as well. What renderer did you use?

Thanks for comments ! It's always nice to see someone go to page #2

About the weld tutorial, that's a very nice idea. I've tried to model the welds inside the chassis mesh, but I've got a unsolvable problem when 2 small tubes goes from a bigger one. I'm gonna try this move, I will tell about it later.
