October 2007 - Guitarsimo80 - Lost Valley

Hi !!
this is my first matte painting challenge ... and yes .. my first matte painting!!!
i got some problem to find an idea and, without pen tablet, to draw it.
i'm started with a panoramic photo that i've made this summer on sass pordoi (dolomiti)

than cut the front area and add some rock on the left and right manipulating some reference photo

after all i've tried to "sketch" a background for reference with vue infinite ...
now can i start to work on it!
any c&c are very welcome!!!
bye!

Background looks awesome!

Just the foreground colors need to be "greened" up a bit, else they don't seem to 100% fit! But great work anyhow!

careful to perspective and lighting, even if it's a sketch you should paint in shadows and highlights to have a rough idea

I think the competition had begun enthusiasm ...

Your test my friend is very beautiful , but in some of the comments simple ...

First: In the palm or trees at the bottom of the valley with the river needs more attention (water and then sand and then grass and palm trees) ...
The left (trees over the plateau) need to be Treatment more ...

Try the Treatment colors between the trees and hills close ...

I hope that my comments are convenient to you, and help you in the development work for the better ...

sorry my language not good ...

Well even if you can't finish it on time,
You did some great work allready!

The newer one is better indeed!

better, now think to some foreground element to help sell the distance, like some close tree or cliff.

...shadows on your rock at the left side below the castle... actually the shade in that area... also the shaded part on your upper right rock... your light is left to right, so it should be that way too... hope that helps and good luck!
