Dec 2007 - Swimming Dinosaur

Please read the Instructions Guidelines and FAQ's for this challenge first.

Okay, so here we go with this month's challenge, which is designed to be fun, creative and not too intensive, whilst giving best entrants prizes and great exposure in 3DCreative Magazine.

This month we have chosen SWIMMING DINOSAURS! (Although there's technically no such thing; dinosaurs apparently lived on land only. If we want to be picky we should really call them "Plesiosaurs" or "Ichthyosaurs", but let's just call them "swimming dinosaurs" for the sake of this competition and to keep things nice and simple!)

Please don't start new threads: all design sketches, WIPs and feedback must go in this thread only; however questions should go in the following thread: Guidelines and FAQ's

Final Images go in the Voting thread, which will be created later in the month ready for Voting.

Have fun! There are some pretty cool images on the Net for this subject, so enjoy your explorations! Should be a fun one this month! Enjoy!!

O.k. well I think I will give this one a try. Here is a quick concept sketch that I think will work.

I will try and get this worked out on time.

p.s. I found a good reference site where you can find details on most species.
http://www.palaeos.com/Vertebrates/U...a/220.000.html

Just scroll down to the bottom and search through the navigation to go through the various species and their details.

Here is a quick rough model. I think I will have to change it to get it to look more interesting and friendly, but it is a start.

Re designed head...

And a quick render. This render is crap by the way. Just a quick test

Comments welcome

I am using Blender 2.45
windows XPPro
2.4GHz Pentium 4
1GB Ram
Nvidia fx5200

Yeah, I like using blender, though I also use XSI and silo, I like to support the OS project, as it gave me my first taste of 3D. I am hopeless at the moment though So I am hoping that I can improve my skills with this project, such as texturing, posing and rendering, tasks I usually give to XSI for the ease of use, but good place to start.

I have decided to change the head of this character as he looks a little too fierce where should be more placid.

Thanks raiden1983. Yes his tail is also not anatomically correct, as with the head, will get looked at.

Hey guys great starts so far. I think I'll join this one as soon as my exams are over this week. I'll have a concept up soon, I'm thinking along the lines something of a duck type dinosaur almost like ducky from land before time but more duck like.....
