How to make a ribbon in 3d max?

Hello,

I have an idea on what I want to make in MAX, a 3D-text and some gift ribbons twirled around it, you know the kind of ribbon you wrap around presents.

The problem is that I totally fail at creating this ribbon, I have tried some with the cloth reactor tool and some lofting but the result is always very bad.

Anyone who have some tips on how to create the perfect ribbon in MAX? I would be eternally greateful!

drawing the ribbon as a spline and converting to nurbs is one solution

I'd make as close as I could get with a loft, then finish it with edit poly.
