Mudbox contest entry (Human)

This is my first attempt ever to modell anything in mudbox and I doubt I'll win but hey, the experience will do me good

Here's the first screenshot of the modell, don't really know where I'm going with it but I'm going somewhere alright, comments and ideas are very much welcome!

By the way, is there an easy way to move the arms up so the character gets a cross looking pose instead of this one? (Tried to do it with the move tool but didn't work too good)

Hey that's a really good start for the first time you've ever trying something in Mudbox. Right now the pecs, abs, and ribs need some more attention though. Just make sure you've got some nice refs of the torso.

About posing the arms, you've really got only 2 options.

1. You can take the lowest rez mesh into your main 3d software and rig it. Takes a fair amount of time, but you'll have more freedom to really play with the pose once you're done.

2. Take it into zbrush and use the posing tools. A much faster temporary solution. It's pretty common to see people using Mudbox for sculpting still take it into Zbrush to make pose changes.

It's an improvement, but it's still a bit too blocky. It's pretty common for people to over exaggerate the abs and pecs while under exaggerating the ribcage structure underneath.

I had the same problem too, the male I attempted a 6 months ago really doesn't have a rib cage that drives the figure. As a result everything looks plastered on. I didn't know any better back then, but now I do.

Take a look at this sculpture:

Notice how you can clearly identify where the rib cage is underneath and how important that is to driving the pose. You've got a different build than this so things may vary, but it's still a factor. I imagine your model would look something like this flexing:

Take a look at how the rib cage and the muscles attached relate to the abs and pecs.

I´m pretty much sure that it actually has a very small head for the body. I see a propotion issue en the superior part of the torso. The abs are way too wide and the arms could use some more work too. The belly button (sorry my english, I´m not even sure the hole in the midle of the torso is called that) is way lower. Face is looking cool, it has an expression of being between upset and tired. Nice sculpting over all, keep working hard on it. Oh, bear in mind what Crispy said, I think he´s right.
