The New SMC's - 020 - Continuum Tranfunctioner
1, Each challenge we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modeling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.
How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief can be removed and the poster disqualified. 2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified. 3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified. 4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information can be removed and the poster disqualified. 5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 1024x768 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 195k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images files. Images larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified. 6, The creation of displacement maps, normal maps and any splines drawn out in an external program other than your modeling software are to be included in your modeling time. 7, Time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable. 8, Posting the same entry twice in a challenge is considered to be double posting and will result in a disqualification. When asked to fix a previous post due to DQ or any other reason, you must fix the first post, or delete it altogether and create a new one. These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions! Time limit - 60 minutes Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 6th of February 2008 Subject - 3D Puzzle Game 3D Puzzle Game: What? You don't know what the Continuum Tranfunctioner is? It's a very mysterious and powerful device and it's mystery is only exceeded by it's power! Sheesh... where have you guys been? Under a rock? Umm... ok... anyway... The point here is to make a 3D Puzzle Game... or Brain Teaser. Wood, metal, plastic... these things can be made out of anything... and can frustrate us until no end. The catch here is... we want the finished and unfinished versions! ![]() Have Fun and Good Luck! My Starter: |

Bravo indeed! finally something new and totally different for us to sink our teeth into!
Amazingly simple yet spot on starter, I remember having a Rubik's cube when I was young, back then though you could cheat because the colour sections on the cube were stickers, after a while the sticker wouldn't stick on properly and you knew that someone had be cheating (usually my sister) and it would start to jam up with overuse playing the game. The lighting looks really nice and realistic too. This will be a good one, we got alot of mini wooden, metal and plastic puzzle games in the crackers at christmas, I'm not sure if we threw them out or not, there's probably a few hanging around to model ![]() Expect a few entries from me for this one then, I may have to try a Rubik's cube myself lol ![]() Kind Regards Classic Gamer

triangle triumph
I came on earlier to see if the fountain challenge was up and saw this one. I had to go quick, didn't want anyone to take the triangle.

so heres my 1st entry, the towers of hanoi, i made it because i remembered that in one of my classes, i made a little application that gives the answer of this puzzle, it gives u like step by step, no matter how many discs u put, not that many, in my C++ book it says that : Legend has it that the world will come to an end when the problem is solved for 64 disks
...hope u like it, made in XSI, primitives, exported to 3ds and rendered with v-ray.In this problem u have to move a specified numer of disks that are all different sizes from one tower to another. floorman20 : awesome entry, nice materials, how u play that? Classic Gamer - 3D Threedy New SMC's #20 ''3D Puzzle Game'' Entry #01
OK well as mentioned earlier, here is my interpretation of the legendary Rubik's Cube, modelled fairly quickly too, using nearly the same technique as Marty
![]() Rendering took a while, but there's alot of GI samples and AO aswell, but i'm pretty pleased with how this one came out, there's also some faint DOF effects at the rear of the camera view, to the left there's a red chair and the cubes are resting on a table too, both were modelling in the time frame, but i've left them out as they are really only there to dress the scene as it were. I've got a few more idea's up my sleeve yet, i've just gotta find the time to get them done. All other information is on the composite. Kind Regards Classic Gamer
