First car model: Renault Alpine A310

Hi all,

My first serious attempt on car modelling. I'm not going for the real detail, since I don't have enough reference for this car.

Cheers,

Yuri.

Attached the reference and the work I've done sofar.

Cool

Nice work so far. I like that you are modeling a little older car than ussualy do others. Do you plan on texturing it ? good luck !

NeXt 0ne: Personally I like old rally cars very much, the Renault Alpine is my favourite and also the Audi Quattro (maybe in future I model too!).
I am trying to finish this car complete, that also includes texturing and compositing in an environment.

For now the smoothed update and some renders.
Next step will be the interior and then the lights and other details.

Cheers,

Yuri.

i think you should work on the wheels, because they look like they were mapped on.

Tuss4: You are right about the wheels. I just did this, so I can see how it 'looks' like with the car.

Unhappy new start

Unfortunatly my file got corrupted, every time I open the file I get an 'out of memory error'
So all the work for nothing
But every disadvantage has it's advantages (or was it the other way around ) Never mind.
I have better reference images to work with now.
Here is what I have sofar.

Cheers,

Yuri.

P.s.

If anybody can support me, I'll be greatful (since it's my first car model).

Have u tried to merge the model into a new file?
Anyhow, I would go with NeXt One, try to lose those triangles and pentagons^^

Thanks forthe advice, I'll try to work around those triangles.
About those pentagons... The car consists of different 'parts' so the actual pentagons you see are not welded together. So I'm not worries about that for the moment.

Cheers,

Yuri.

@ Animaleante: I'll try right away merging the file into a new scene. Thanks for the tip

Update:

Removed the triangles and moved upto the interior.

The merge worked, but now I like my current model more then the old one

Cheers,

Yuri.

Looking like a nice second start. The mesh is clean, and the model looks accurate so far. I think you might end up with a crease on the roof when smoothed though, you've got several edges close together over the window post. Also, the overall topology looks a bit too gridlike, especially on the hood and around the fenders. Yours looks good, but it would be more efficient with a bit more looping.

Where do you start to model your cars?

Keep it up, your doing excellent for a second car.

Animaleante: Thanks for your reply.
parleee: Thanks for dropping by and giving some comments. Your right about the roof, it's hard get a smooth line when the edges are to close together (I'll fix that). With gridlike you mean I should follow more the cars' lines instead of blocking out the car? I started with the side bottom of the car.
