Final Year Project 2003

Hey,
I just want to present you my Final Year Project that i had to do at uni this year.
It's a small animation in 2D/3D (composited) of 1 minute 40.

I'll show you the main stages of the animation with some pictures... (anyone that wants to see the video can e-mail me, it's not a big file i can send it through msn or something )

The CG parts are modeled and animated in XSI v2.01, and the 2D parts are draw by hand and scanned to Photoshop then colored.

The CG and 2D parts are composited together on After Effect and animated if needed.

Below you can see my main character of the animation, it's a robot.
It's the first 3D model of the character at the start of the project.
It is toon shaded.

Here is the second an final model of the animation.
It is toon shaded as well.
A lot more details have been given to the model, especially in the eyes, where bones have been added to move the eyeleads for more expressions.

Looks real nice - you've got a style that lends itself to toon shading really well

Hey everyone this is the links for the 2 animations of my final year project...

One is the intro for Animex Animation Awards that take place at my Uni every year, it's a small intro where i used my first Robot model...

http://www.leplop.com/greg/animex.avi

The second animation is actually my Final Year Project animation, i try to compress it as much as i can for 200Mb i put it down to 70Mb without having a big loss of quality...

http://www.leplop.com/greg/FYanim.avi

Once you pressed the links it will open your Windows media player and will connect to my mates server! just wait for a few minutes it will actually load all te animation before playing it, for the FYAnim.avi it will take few minutes just be patient...

The videos will be only for a week on the server because it will slow down my LAN, so get viewing, hehe

I'm curious - what's Teeside Uni like? I'm interested in doing an MA in animation when I get out of my current BA course over in Manchester Metropolitan

The Uni is actually good if you are good on working on your own, personally i don't like it cause the tutors don't help you much and just give you the assessments and leave you to do them and hand them in after a month or so... (it's just that i prefer the way they teach at college and as well that i am lazy )

I don't know much about the masters though...

What kind of animation BA you doing? 3D, 2D or both (compositing)?.

But if you want to do 2D traditional animation i think london has better universities...but i guess you do 3D as this forum is for 3D stuff...

I will say that i reccomend the uni though but not the area, Middlesbrough sucks....

I'm not doing an animation course I'm doing a BA in Contemporary Arts (Writing). All that means is I'm doing a degree which covers a bit of art theory and history but is mostly practical. The Writing bit's fairly self-explantory; I write fiction, scripts, etc. and get course credit. I also have a strong interest in digital art (when I started I was doing Writing and Visual Arts, but the Visual Arts course was poo, so I quit).

My whole interest in 3D is just finding another way of telling a story.

And if Middlesborough is bad, it ain't as boring as where my campus is, trust me
