Here's mine- took my time rendering it.
It's based on the smart car. If I get time, I'm going to do another based on my real car- an orange Mini convertible ![]() |

It's just there to test the materials out. That's all there is too it ![]() pavrix - brilliant find on "The Homer" blueprints, I might give it a go, but i'm struggling with my yellow van entry at the moment. CG

I modeled my second entry
Moving on to rendering it next. While I was modeling, I gathered some screen captures and made this little gif. Thought it might be interesting to some one. Entry will be coming soon! Let me know if you have any questions (took the full 90 minutes to model)![]() I like to start with the round parts- I make them out of cylinders. I always find that the most time consuming part is to create a perfectly round shape, yet without this the model looks immediately wrong. So for this model, I made the wheel wells first. I also made the headlight shape out of a cylinder. With a time constraint, I usually use turbosmooth and check both "separate by smoothing groups" and "separate by materials." That gives a lot of control without chamfering and the pain of cleaning it up. The mental ray rounded edges effect does a nice job on edge highlights. I make a lot of car interiors at work- I think I made the seats and interior in about 2 min Thanks for the nice comments about my first model ![]() Last edited by RockstarKate; 16-03-2008 at 03:05 AM.. |

Thanks CG, great models from you too
![]() Here it is in final entry form. I basically kept adding details until I ran out of time. Definitely could be more! Maybe sometime I'll detail this model and render it like a real car. Now I'm thinking of doing a scene with the Mini and the smart car together! Could be fun. |

Thanks CG! I used a photo of a real mini headlight for the texture. Without it, it seemed to be missing something but obviously, no time to model it for this comp! So- simple solution really
![]() Like I said, I own this car irl, so if I do detail it, I will have the ultimate source of references! |
