axis locking

using mav 4.2. - when i grab an object, and the axis shows up - if i highlight the x axis it locks it - ditto for the other axises. fine. but, for some reason max remembers this as default, so the next object i select automatically locks itself only to the x axis, forcing me to manually switch back to x/y (f8). is this a "feature"? or can i switch this off somehow?

have u set ur mouse (in windows) to select on rollover option (ie: in windows, when u move ur mouse over a folder icon, does the folder get selected)? I think this is enabled so when u move ur mouse over an axis, it gets selected.

errr.....nope, it isn't there. this isn't the famous "where have the axises vanished to - press the "X" on your keyboard" question, but the slighlty less known - "why does max insist it knows better than me, even though it's on my damn computer, and still insists on doing what it pleases" question.
