Its pretty good.

It looks like the moon is hitting the earth right? If so, the moon I believe should be a quarter of the size of the earth, but don't quote me on that.

Z-Brush is a modeller to add details in most cases, but I guess in its simpliest form, it could be used as a modeller, but I wouldn;t. Not for unorganic shapes. You'll need another one with it to get the most out of it.

I started with Max, and have stook with Max.

Theres a free version of Maya you can try out, and it does seem like other 3D software out there, in terms of the GUI, so if you get used to Maya, you may be able to use XSI, etc, but Max seems to have a completly different look.

I think that is about right. The diameter is approximately a quarter of Earth's but not necessarily is the size as well.

Looks like on the right track but I would assume a "cracked" Earth from impact with the moon would spread out from impact as opposed to be evenly spread out and perhaps a bit more violent (debris blasting out for example). But perhaps you prefer the more serene look

The cracks are painted on it would seem. Cracks should have depth particularily around edges of earth where "the jagged edges" should be more apparent. For extra detail perhaps there would be some sort of detail around the cracks where the Earth is being affected (water falling into them perhaps).

Otherwise on the right track; but it could be better

To be honest you could do this completely in Photoshop (or Gimp or w/e) easily without the ad of a 3D package.
