Train car...
Hi all. Needed a break from doing Dwarfs, so I knocked this up in about two hours. It's 234 polys/triangles of which 192 are in the wheels. Texture map is half of a 512x512 bmp, leaving me enough space for another car texture if i decide to create one!
Any comments greatly appreciated, even the negative ones! http://www.perversonality.com/projec..._train_01c.jpg http://www.perversonality.com/projec..._train_01d.jpg Wireframe: http://www.perversonality.com/projec..._train_01e.jpg I guess I should also say thanks to Solidarity for giving me the topic idea ![]() Last edited by Perversonality; 19-04-2003 at 11:22 AM.. |

Hey, that looks really good. I like your textures a lot. What program do you use to make the textures and do you use a Wacom tablet? Good job!

I use
3DSMax 5 for modelling Paint Shop Pro 6 for texturing I have an old Wacom tablet (Pen Partner), but I didn't use it for these textures as they were relatively straight forward. I tend to use a mouse for standard textures and the tablet for organics as it seems to match the style better if I do things that way. Here's a slightly higher poly count version which smooths out the pointed wheels: http://www.perversonality.com/projec..._train_01f.jpg Last edited by Perversonality; 19-04-2003 at 11:22 AM.. |

Reminds me of cs_trainyard. It’s really good, and would fit well into a tactical assault game. Only think I would like to point out is the wheels. I don't know if its just the perspective messing with my eyes but train wheels are not rounded like that. They pretty much are flat.

Bit of an update... Fixed the wheels, added dirt to the container and added some ground. Thanks for the comments so far

It seems to be lacking the couplers. Also maybe texture the tie downs for the crate. That would be cool.

Hehe, you're welcome on the idea.
![]() Nice work for the polycount, wish I had that many to work with. Either way I'm just gonna second on what they all said. The texturing is really well done, but I think the crate oughta have textured tie-downs... Can give it a bit more feel. ![]() |

Thanks for all the comments
I might be able to put a tutorial together today, but no promises!Do you want me to go through the whole unwrapping process or just the texturing? Last edited by Perversonality; 21-04-2003 at 11:28 AM.. |

Texture tutorial Part 1 draft is now here. Mapping will probably take longer to do though...
