Thanks

The pod has been the hardest to get right so far...
I'm still to get the logos right at the bottom, but when thats sorted, its done.

Updates on speaker next hopefully. I just need to find a way of modelling the centre speakers pivot on the base

Updates

This time on the speaker and rubber shader.
I found out its the same material on the pod, but I've actually got it looking better now

Only a small update, but I hope it gives you an idea:

Update on the speaker shader. I've also added pretty simple shaders to the cone itself. A lot of detailing needs to be done:

Omg Kage, I start to love you for your renderings
The shading is so realistic, the studiosetup so cool and the model is perfect.
Too bad that packshots don't get awards over at CG-Talk, because I bet your final render would be worth it.

Thanks for that brilliant comment

I was surprised to be honest. CG Talk seemed to be ignoring my thread, with it getting pushed down, by every other thread posted out there in rapid succession, yet today, I find I've been awarded 5 stars there too

What you mean by packshot though? i.e a product visualisation? If so, I do plan in the future to add these to maybe a work station based scene.

Updates hopefully tonight

This is really looking great. I've been following it here and at CG Talk, I'm not sure why it's not getting much attention there.

Are you just painting your DOF effects in how you see fit in Photoshop, or are you using a Z depth pass for accurate DOF? Some of your renderings have been perfectly realistic, from my perspective. Can you give some insight into your materials? I know you're using VRay, but can you go into some more detail?

Thanks Kevin Your first post too! Welcome!

People must be taking notice of it, for the 5 stars to have been got there though, but no, I don't tend to get much in the way of comments, and to be honest, I do like comments, even to know people have looked and liked it, etc, or not as the case may be.

At the moment, all the DOF effects have been painted in Photoshop yeah, as renders with DOF seem to take a very long time with all of my metal shaders as well.
Plus, these models seem to be so detailed, that turning it on sometimes can crash my system

Well, the materials are surprisingly rather simple.

I always tend to use Shellac materials for everything, because if you look at an object in real life, there always seems to be a reflection, like of a light or something, and then, there is also a reflection almost below that one, which spreads further out.

So, I make the base shellac material quite reflective, with not much in the way of glossy reflections, and then the second one, slightly less bright, with more IOR, and more of a glossy setting on the reflections.
That gives a very realistic material!

Look at any glossy wood, or glossy plastic, or even cars and look carefully, and I guarantee you'll see the effect I mentioned.

The diffuse though on the metal materials are black, and being set to and so set to 0,0,0, with Vray then automatically setting the material to be a metallic shader, with the IOR and reflection setting mattering the most.
With the other plastic black materials, like the back of the speaker, it is then important to set the colour to 1,1,1. This then gives the object a slight colour variation, and so even with a reflection in place, it doesn't behave like a metal.

Models and textures are looking very good, maybe a little noise in the shaders though? Take away some of the "newness" just a thought. Good work.

Thanks Nexgirl I'm glad to help.

Thanks Polysmooth. The noise on the speaker shader is actually meant. If you look closely at the real thing, there is a speckle type look about it.

I believe the render above was also done at a lower quality setting, due to the dome taking around 2 hours to render. I'm re-rendering now at a higher setting

Plus, about the dirting up of it. I have thought about that, and may add dust later on. It depends how well my computer can take it all

Hi again
Yes, a packshot is the visualisation of a product as a still, single frame for an ad.

I would call your thread over at CG-Talk a success and that not only beacuse you have got your well deserved 5*s;
at least it defeated threads like the 'Charlize Theron'-thread!!!
These days where controversial images gain awards (;D) the biggest success;
in my opinion.

to the 'rapid succession':
The image of CG-Talk changed dramatically during the last time.
More and more pseudo artist came to the forums and flooded it with their projects. It wouldn't be a problem - I mean all of us started anywhere between 'somebody who walk close to the edge to become shot for his stupid questions' and 'the absence of artistical comprehension'. The difference is that many of these people don't care about their missing knowledge and vote for every s**t they see, posted by an previous award winner, with their 5 stars post.

Maybe it's arrogant to call himself as a 'teached' person,
although you have never finished a great image, but I DO.

Well, that was a bit off topic.
Sorry Kage but I gave it a try to explain the conditions at CG-Talk, only for you

Haha fun club

BattlemasterXP, Rooky, thanks so much

Yeah, CG Talk did surprise me, and I know exactly what you mean. It just doesn't seem like as a friendly place as here, where you sort of build up a friend circle, whereas at CG Talk, there are so many new people, and as such, the homeliness gets lost in it all I find.

Last render of the day. Worked a lot on the mats. I'll add the logos back next, but this time on the model itself, and then I only have a few more objects left to do!:
