Setting up a basic studio lit scene in VRay.
Right.
Looks crappy so far, so we'll change some render settings and add some GI. Go into the render settings > Renderer, and open the Environment rollout. Enable the GI Environment Skylight Over-ride button. Set the colour to white for now, and change the intensity to a mid level. I'll use 0.6 Last edited by Honki; 12-06-2008 at 12:19 PM.. |

Setting up a basic studio lit scene in VRay.
And we need to enable Global Illumination.
This will let the light bounce around, and basically lighten up our scene. Make sure you uncheck Default Lights and Hidden Lights. Last edited by Honki; 12-06-2008 at 12:19 PM.. |

Setting up a basic studio lit scene in VRay.
Let's do another test render.
You can see the blue colour bleeding on the floor. This is because the secondary bounces are too strong. Last edited by Honki; 12-06-2008 at 12:20 PM.. |

Setting up a basic studio lit scene in VRay.
And that should be us ready to go.
First, increase the dimensions of the render before adding GI samples etc, and render out a test. Last edited by Honki; 12-06-2008 at 12:20 PM.. |

Setting up a basic studio lit scene in VRay.
All looks good.
Now we just increase the samples of our GI & AA (Antialiasing) to give ourselves a good quality render. Last edited by Honki; 12-06-2008 at 12:21 PM.. |

Render it out, and you should have yourself a good picture.

Setting up a basic studio lit scene in VRay.
And That's IT!!
Save your scene, and you can use it as a base for many different studio renders. Obviously the settings, colours, backdrop etc. will change based on what you want to achieve. Hope you find it useful.

@Honki
Great idea... i have always found you to be helpful and a mine of information.. If I may suggest though... this thread is going to get huge if you keep adding to it like that first tutorial. May i suggest making a new tutorial thread for each tutorial and then having a "index" list in this thread. Mabey with a nice title gfx like your last post announcing the next tutorial. Then by editing the first post of this thread you can add all the tutorial links and have a nice neat thread with all the information... rather than a single thread 30 pages long with comments scattered though it and mabey in teh future a user having to page though 20 pages to find a tutorial "buried" inside the thread... Just a though... either way please continue ![]()

That ones a good one too Chubu.
In fact, I use that set up myself sometimes. There is no right or wrong way to set up a scene. I just put it together as I have had several requests via PM and email on how to do it. I normally would just direct them to the link you just posted, but I thought I might as well put one together and keep it in the realm of threedy.
