(Prizes Added!) Speed Sculpt Challenge - 001 - Orc's Head
Attention! Challenge deadline update: Monday May 12th, 10:00 AM GMT +0, not PM as stated earlier.
Rules update: Post your final entry in this thread. That's right, people. Due to popular demand, we're introducing the Sculpting Challenge. That means using software with sculpting tools, like Zbrush, Mudbox, Blender, Silo, etc. This can get big, so let's really go for it and gather lots of entries. Here we go. Rules: 1. Each competition will last two weeks, with one week allocated to creating and submitting the entries, and the second week allocated to judging and voting the entries. 2. The moderators will be supplying a base mesh for each competition, from where everyone will start sculpting with. This is so we all get an equal start and it keeps us on topic. 3. There will be a time limit for the sculpting. Spend no longer than the allocated time limit, then post a screengrab of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here. 4. Do not add extra meshes to the base mesh. However, you are free to add any accessories/details as long as they're within the base mesh, to give your character personality. 5. No rendering, texturing, lighting or rigging, let's keep it all about the high-res sculpt. What we are looking for is the quality of the sculpts you can produce "under pressure". If your entry is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable and on topic. 6. For your final entry, post a screengrab from your software with your finished work in it. These images must be uploaded to our servers by using the "manage attachments" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images files. Larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified. 7. You can have multiple entries, but you can have only one final entry for each competition. 8. Do not create your own WIP thread. Simply post all WIP screengrabs in here, and your FINAL entry in this thread. These rules apply to everybody taking part, there will be NO exceptions! I've attached the base mesh in this post. Take it and go subdivide. Prizes The winner can choose any 2 3DTotal products from our shop Please note a few products here are not 3DTotal's but 12 month mag subscriptions are fine ![]() Time limit - 3 hours Deadline - Monday May 12th, 10:00 AM GMT +0 Subject - Orc's Head The orc. Everyone's favourite badguy. Check them out in Warcraft, in LotR, in any fantasy setting. We want you to sculpt an orc's head ( no body this time ), in any way or fashion you deem fit. Realistic, fantasy, stylized, anything goes. Good luck! I'm feeling all green with anticipation.

Nice base. Might be a good idea to add a jpeg of what the basemesh looks like. Might get more people into it. At least everyone would see a "before" stage...

The base mesh is good. Feel free to do what ever you like with it.You can close the mouth or leave it open; you can either just sculpt/detail the head or completely change the proportions of it.It's all up to you,so go crazy, guys, and have fun!

Good idea, katana. Here's a screenshot of the base mesh, courtesy of Knut-3DT.

It`s the first speed sculpt challenge for me so I`ll have to ask a couple of questions:
-what W.I.P. s?; as far as I understand I should grab the base mesh and sculpt the hack out of it in 4 hours so I don`t think spending time on uploading in progress shots is a good idea -the "no extra meshes" rule: how is that for ZBrush(I don`t know about other progs)? No subtools, no MeshInsert? Nice subject, the first thing I sculpted when I started 3D was an orc head, of course. Last edited by silvaticus; 05-05-2008 at 11:08 AM.. -It means simply "do not add any geometry to the mesh". Move, push in, pull out and shape the provided mesh, don't add anything. Hope that cleared things up ![]() |
