I was wondering if you were going to do the robot as well. Hope you finish it all up!

Messed around with the design some more. I tried a few different things but they all make the hand too bulky looking. Im going to stick with this design, next thing to do is attach the thumb and make it rotatable.

I'm just going to give criticism here, cause I love building Gundam style robots as well ( check out Fury of Prometheus in my sig, if you wanna see ). A flaw in this design is that your Gundam cannot extend his fingers, only rotate them up and down. I'm being a perfectionist requesting this, and I don't personally know the mechanism required to make them do that ( in my mechs, this detail is never visible from a certain distance, so I let them extend their fingers anyway ), but it would add more potential to the robot's grip.

What are those little cylinders and tubes in the knuckles? I don't see how they help move the fingers around. Maybe on each side of the finger, like a hinge? This would be the hardest part of the mech, for me. Getting those proportions right is key though. I have all the faith in the world you'll get it right.

Freespace: Do you mean increase and decrease the distance between the joints of the fingers? Thats an interesting thought, and I think your right. I will ponder on that a bit. However the hands already going to have a complicated rig and I will end up needing a script for it, so I may or may not include that design. Ill look into it a little more.

Saiya-Jin: The cylinders are a place holder for now. The thought is that the outer and iner ones will spin in oposing directions while the middle one moves up and down (only during finger rotation). Im trying to give it a hydrolic/clutch combination. Something like this would be intensly software driven, and a clutch would eliminate alot of calculations and sensor hardware. Im not sure if Ill keep that design. Taking it, as it comes.

Update: I setup the thumb joint, and did a basic parenting rotation for preview.

Its awsume to know that people are dedicated to this project. I apologize that its going so slow... My primary goal is to finish this, and do it well. Im only working on it when I really want to, im not forceing myself to get it done.

All my projects have been half-asses and im sick of not finishing stuff.
This time Im doing it right, and with extreamly well organized project files.

I thought about this in bed last night... I think im going to add a second axis rotation to the fingers, so they can be spread out to grab sphere shapped objects. I expect a good update tonight, if I feel like doing it that is

A little offtopic, but did you see the new Gundam 00 series? Personally, I tried to watch it but felt it was soooo boring, I stopped after about 8 episodes.
