Mudbox settings for 3ds max.
Hey..
Im trying to export normal map/displacement map from mudbox to 3ds max. But it seems like the settings aren't right because the map that mudbox is outputting look messed up:- http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...edy/UV_map.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...isp_maptif.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...mal_maptif.jpg Im using this method; http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_educat...mudbox_max.htm and tried to modify the settings, but it always seems to spit out faulty maps. Has anyone got the same problem, and a solution to it???

That happened to me once, and I had to redo the whole thing, starting from a new base mesh.

Not used MB in a long time, but last time that happened to me I ended up dumping the high poly out of MB and imported it into Max, creating the normal map using render to texture. Once Max got through the whole "you're trying to make me do what with this model?!" it went relatively smoothly!

I've not made a displace map but for the normals the one thing I've found helps is to split the low-res target mesh up into elements at the boundaries of the UV shells.
you could try splitting the base up, importing it and baking to that. |

One thing you could try which works in zbrush is to put a reset xform on top of the stack and then collapse it before exporting.
It may be worth a try. Just make a back up first. |
