trying to have exam only certification

Hi guys. I have a question/problem... I am a well self trained artist on photoshop, 3ds max and autocad, and things, I talked to my mates and they all said, nowadays, jobs wise, I need the "paperwork" to prove and promote myself if i want to gain any related job or just simply to put the skills on a CV. The thing is I already know the stuffs, it is just stupid to take a diploma course, attend the lession, then to take exams and summit coursework..., beside, i just don't have that kind of money. Moreover, there are so much good quality self training material out on the net nowadays, dvd, web base, you name it, right here at 3d total is already a good example... Sometimes, I learn certain stuffs because i need it for the time being, but later on i want the knowledge to be officially regonized, you know. So, after all this long talk, my question is how can I just simply take exam to get the certification I want?? Thanks guys!!
