I'm not very good at modeling so I have set my self a task of doing 3models a week, to help me improve and speed my work flow. Most are designed with game engines in mind.

Id say try and model high poly man, otherwise down the road your going to have to learn how to model all over again, wheras if you get Highpoly stuff down, the low is relatively easy.
