Unhappy 3dmax PArray

hi there,

i got the following problem: i used a parray to create leaves on a tree. now i want to achieve the following: say the animation last 100 frames. i want the leaves to stay always the same, they shouldnt grow, their number shouldnt increase or decrease, they should look the same and their location should be the same over all the 100 frames.
i used the following settings:

I set Emit Start to 0 --> leaves are created right at frame 0.

I set Emit Stop to 1 --> leaves should not be emmited anymore after frame 0.

I set Display Until to 100 --> particles should not disappear until the very end of the animation.

I Set Life to 100 --> all leaves should be there all 100 frames.

If i now want to render it, there is an error saying: application ran out of memory and will now close. this happens no matter whether i use 1 leave or 5000.

could somebody possibly tell me where i make a mistake or how can achieve what i want to achieve.

thanks a lot for your help,

johannes

It depends on how heavy your mesh is but I have no idea exactly why your machine crashes. And also u should set the emit stop at 0 so that the number of leaves dont increase on frame 1. also set the grow for and fade for settings to 0 and display untill to 101. I tried it on my machine and it works fine. Dont know why it crashes on yours.

Do not bother yourself playing with these parametres, To freeze particles you could try one of the following:
1- using "mesher" a new feature available in max5 allows you to generate a mesh copy of the paticles then u could convert this copy to editable mesh locate this function at compound objects group
2- use "snapshot" tool which does the same thing with different level of control.. Locate this tool at "tools" in the main menu
