was toying with 3dsmax when this came up...
I call it "The Fire Flower"

I haven't seen people use xFrog for this sort of stuff in some time now...

This piece used xFrog, with 3dsMAX8 and believe it or not scanline rendering... hehe.
So the modelling was sweet and easy, but the materials and rendering did take a lot of time...
I am happy with the results, considering these were done on 1 gig RAM on P4 2Ghz.

It's a nice feeling to see that these are appreciated.

@ Wilbert : These are abstract, yet I do associate them with something or the other, for example here, I really thought of a fireball (eh! sun???) whose tendrils spread out to make it look like a flower, if just for a split second.

@ penguins : you are right man! a lot of ppl. in my office have done just that. you are free to take these as wall papers if you like. I'll send a larger one to you if you need that.

@ velvet :

@ Bob Marley : It's simple really, I kept playing with a lot of falloff maps and spot light parameters to get these.

Okay putting more of these up...

Have you seen a match flare up when you strike it?
Right before it settles down to a steady burn?

Yeah! Imagine it in slow motion... now go really close to it.... real close!
Do you see how it's made up of waves?
Do you see?

I've tried making those waves here...

again, simple modelling, but, it did take time to render...
