Summer Fest - Tropical City - WIP - NOCTURN8
I'm definitely in on this one.
Here's a very early wip image...started visualization using the image i downloaded somewhere as base plate... I'll try extending it somewhere over the left area and a little on the top to give more room, also, the water needs a lot of work since extending will take place, the problem is i don't have any idea how to do it. i'm really a noob at digital matte painting so any help would be gladly apprecited... thanks in advance guys. Update:
here's my test in extending the matte and a few more concept overlays... those specks in the sky will be battleships or whatever...i'll also be trying to make an inorganic structure for a waterfall somewhere in the tallest structure in the right. any crits and comments are welcome. I still don't have an idea on what to do on that water and also in sky which i think is creating a sort of a pinch in the middle ![]() Last edited by Nocturn8; 30-07-2008 at 02:08 AM.. |

Looks like a groovy piece start Nat!
I think the various elements could use some more blending. Now it's clear where a piece begins and another starts, and at the distance, all should be looking more organic. Also, some more definition on the buildings. If this was a speed painting challenge, it would work cool as it is, but being a matte challenge, I think that you need more definition on the volumes that define the buildings. In the end, try to desaturate the image a bit. The blue ocean is very strong, and distracts for the action in the background. Keep up matey!

Matte what?
|
Hey, looking well so far... so i'll reserve my comments for laterz...
But as for waht daddydoom was saying, probably he meant something about distance and depth. Usually achieved by making the backgound images less saturated than the ones in the foreground. Composition wise, you might want to extend the sky upwards rather than having that depth of the sea, it feels like its so tight down there you can hardly breath... thats it for now man... keep making cool artworks! Heck you must have an awfully lot of time in your hands! Modelling, painting and all the rest, your all over the place man! BTW Roadrunner is still hiring 3D artist, just in case your interested... |

eyecon: hey there o master of the art. Matte Painting never was of interest to me that much before i've seen everyone's work here, especially your works and Suirebit. Thanks for the support and i'm really into matte painting now...actually... i'm kinda loving it.
Regarding Roadrunner, are there any extended info's in this one?. Please email me at FinalNOCTURN8@hotmail.com, thanks again buddy! Last edited by Nocturn8; 31-07-2008 at 01:25 PM.. |

Update:
Extended the sky...and started playing with the buildings to get more depth before adding more structures... Here you can also see the perspective lines which i might use to add MG and FG elements. thanks to thee, DaddyDoom, eyecon for the ideas and support. I don't actually know if I'm going the right way... crits and comments are welcome as always and thanks in advance. |

Update:
created fg/mg element and positioned it slightly offset the perspective guide to add a little irregularity...(don't know if it's working though) added a few more elements. next will be color adjustments, more structures, and will try to make the fg/mg element a bit more mechanical or something. please tell me what you think.. thanks! Dude, that's a hell of an improvement there
![]() Remember to define those buildings in the distance a bit better. I can still see where the brush strokes intersected. But it's going the right way now man!

Hi!
Doing well and a huge leap on improvement! Thats way better an much cooler. I'm pretty sure your buildings will be improved so I'm not commenting on that, the only thing that needs to be tweaked is your wooden bridge, based on your vanishing point, its a bit off. Other than that... your on a cool start! |
