bmw c1: urban trespasser
This is a non-commercial project, made for self-education. Polymodelling and unwrapping done in 3ds max 8, rendering in Vray, postproduction made with Photoshop and After Fx. Two weeks on the c1 model, and few monts in free time for rest. 3 millions of polygons, 130 various textures, 2720 objects in scene. Full resolution is 4x3k.
There is some rough noise, but it's all that i can take from my system without having rendertimes growing out of 80 hrs per picture. It's a real existing, but gone out of production model. Ask Wiki for more. Close-ups:01, 02 Wires:01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 The images below are clickable, about 2500x1875px each one. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Those daytime shots are fantastic. I had to double-take the environment. The textures are phenomenal. Only the night shots need work because the 'bike' looks photoshopped in--there's no good blend between the tires and ground.
Great work! |

Oh my goodness, just amazing photorealistic renders, flawless modelling and beautiful texturing, you have a good eye for all these details.
Worthy of front page aswell as it's current news banner prestige. I won't hesistate in giving this 5 stars straight away, in fact i'd like to give it more, it's just incredible. Well done, work that any artist would be proud of. ![]() Kind Regards CG. |

I'll give it 5 stars too.
The amount of work that has gone into the lighting/rendering is unbeliveable. You can't really in places, tell it from a photo... seriously. The scene would have been rather simple, and kind of bland, but its the textures that make all the difference Could you explain your workflow at all? Lighting? Camera DOF real or Z-depth added?

Thanks, guys =)
inveni0, You're right. The night shots was lit by flash, that's the reason. I should use the occlusion pass and move the flash aside, i'll try to avoid that mistake in future. Thank you for kind words and critics ![]() ClassicGamer, thanks a lot, glad to hear it ![]() Kage, thanks. My workflow is ordinary, i think. Poly-by-poly for modelling, 3dsmax's standard unwrap modifier and Photoshop for texturing, Vray Blend and standard procedural Mix map for complex materials. The scene is lit by one dome light with HDRI for a day and dome with flash for night renders. IrMap (-3/-2) + Lc (3000 sbd, world, 40 mm) for 4x3k resolution, linear colormapping ( i'm using LWF ). Vray DOF on the close-ups, on the general views it's postprocessed. |

Wow, great results, if you used an IR of -3/-2... That cuts out so much details out usually, even at 1680x1050 for me. I have to render at 1/2 to produce the same results you have there at that res
![]() But yeah, I hope you stay around ![]()

this is one of the first times i can't really see that its 3D. Thats a great job. And the noise in the picture makes it more real, if it was too clean, than you can notice that its 3D. The best thing is the ground texture i think. Job well done.
