Need help texturing/unwraping

Hello, I modelled this helmet and tried to texture it. Its the first time I'm unwraping something and maybe I did something wrong but when I apply the texture material to the helmet its all messed up. If anyone could point me to my mistake I would be very gratefull!

I tried to add some simple symbols to the areas noted by text but they didnt show.

it looks to me like you're using the wrong mapping channel

make sure you have unwrapped channel1 and make sure that the bitmap is set to use channel 1 in the material editor
