Niles Bolton Associates

This was an interior rendering created for a client using 3DS Max, Mental Ray and Photoshop. We would like some feedback to improve our work, and if we get enough positive responses regarding it, we would like to enter it in the featured galleries on www.3dtotal.com

Thank you

The interior looks impressive. Just some suggestions on my part...

There isin't enough contact shadow between the legs of the chairs and the floor, especially the chairs in the right front.

The Glass in not looking real, it needs a lot of reflectivity.

Texturing is good tough. Again, If it is in the day time, there is not enough day light coming in. Adding some daylight should improve the scene. Also some glow to the artificial lights. Some decoratives on the Pillars might also look good.

I liked the carpet

interior issues

Thank you Avishek for your opinions on the rendering. I have used sunlight in this scene. I have been trying to work on that a lot now, but I can never get enough sunlight into the scene.

I keep having to change the exposure value, and the global illumination. If I lower the EV, it keeps burning out whatever is outside the window and if I increase the GI, the image looses all depth and becomes very flat.

Is there another way to go about this? I have looked up multiple tutorials, and it never really works out. Would you please help me out with the daylight settings you use in your interior scenes when the windows are very small? Also, recently, I have been having issues with the ceiling looking very spotty. I am assuming it is the global illumination, but not sure about it. Any advice on that?

thanks

Well If you use the latest versions of max say the 2008 or the 2009 version, there is a new tool called skyportal in the photometric lights catagory. Use that along with a daylight system. Your will get a nice tutorial provided in the help files.
Again, If you use the daylight system in your scene, try using the logarithmic exposour control and Final gathering. Use the sun as mrSun and the sky as mrSky. Again, the photon counts, the samples etc with the GI counts a lot. Refer to the max helps and tutorials along with the software. Its pretty good
