i need gold

i have 3d studio max 5 and brazil

but i cant seem to get a realistic reflectie gold mat

can any one help pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeeeeee

Yeah gold is friggin difficult.

This is what I ended up with

It's a composite with 3 materials

reflections, a dark yellowish color and some darkish specular.
I'll see if I still have the scene and material.

Well I couldn't find the scene anywhere.

Anyway you need a fairly dark yellow as your diffuse colour. as for the reflection the scene was lit with HDRI so realistic reflections pretty much happended by themselves (vray map).

Hmm just thinking now you might try tinting some reflection then blending them with a falloff.

Anyway then you need some nice warm highlights nothing that stands out too much, depends a bit on your scene.

You can use a scratch map as a bump map just for that extra realism as long as it very fine.

But the way I do anything is simply experiment, experiment and experiment again.
