A chess problem

Hi to everyone!
This is one of my first works, you can notice in the poor modeling of the scene (in fact it is the second final image I've done) I used 3dmax 4.2 and Final render. Please I expect a lot of critics and coments. One thing more, the image is a game, you must guess where was the white king before the wind knocked it down.

I like it a lot.

My guess is that the king was three squares directly up (going from corner to corner) from the corner of the board at the bottom of the picture.

Tell me if this doesn't make sense

Take a look at the glass projected shadow. It doesn't look like if caustics is active. Check out your render engine (final render)

It's the only thing.
All the rest... Nice!

I actually like the wood on the table. I think it might be the wrong kind of wood for a table, but the wood itself looks very, very real. I also noticed that caustics seem to be nonexistent for the glass. The pencil looks kind of plasticky, but that might be from the intense light. The eraser on it definitely looks off though. Great work!

I hate to make this my first post. I browse the forums regularly, and don't dare comment or criticize anyone's work without having posted something of my own. The puzzle aspect of this one intrigues me enough to actually register and post though.

For the record, not only is this site extremely helpful for someone just doing CG as a hobby; it's inspirational. Nothing for or against the work at hand. I just want to know the answer to the puzzle. I hope that's appropriate, not insulting.

I can't figure out how the setup is possible. If WBishop was on any square allowing it to just have moved to place BK in check, BK was already in check, and would have had to move the turn prior. If WB did not just move, BK could not have moved to occupy the current square. The WK could not have been blocking WB's path, as it would have been in check on either square at least one full move beforehand. Chess is just another hobby, so it's very likely I'm missing the answer. In which case, very good puzzle, what's the answer?

The glass does look a little od and the leaf seems out of place. I like the wood texture exept it's too reflective for old wood. Good work though. I would say that the white king was "on the game board" before it blew over lol.

First of all, thanks to everyone that have criticized and suggested things, I'm impacient to change (or improve) all this things, but during the week I can't work on 3d, I must wait to the weekend I'll try to do a better picture and show you, but I have thought that it's not the right place I'll post it in "work in progress". Fot those who want to know the answer for the puzzle I'll send you an email with the answer (but you must think a little bit more ) just for not discovering the answer to the rest of the people. Once again thank you very much

PD: Sorry if my english is poor and confusing
