WIP - De_Dust2 Project
Hello folks!
I've started up this new project on re-making the de_dust2 map from Counter Strike Source. The initial idea is to bring it to live and later on adding some animation, something like a real combat scene, pretty much like you'd see in the game. I've managed to reconstruct most of the structure I needed, and am now moving into the somewhat texturing part. A lot of details to add yet, but since I wanted to give some renders a shot, I thought about adding some basic textures. Some shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() C&C and support are always welcome ^^ |

Thanx man!
No, that's not a rip off.. just tons of screenshots and walk-trough videos did the trick ^^ The textures are from the game though, would be impossible to re-make them perfectly. A match? Sure! Add me on your steam, _strattus_. |

This looks cool, a piece of advice before you go animating the characters, take a look at Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones. The movie itself isn't all that good but the Clone Trooper and Droid battles on Geonosis are AMAZING. Keep the fighting as varied and chaotic as you can so it's interesting, bullets whizzing about and people ducking behind cover or throwing grenades, band of brothers is also a good one to watch for this type of thing if you want more reference.

Thanks Lethn, I'll keep that in mind. In fact, I indeed wanted to do something chaotic, but I fear it will becomea bit confusing in the end.... We'll see how it turns out ^^
I'll post some updates soon. |

Confusing and chaotic is awesome when it comes to battles, that's what they're all about
. I've gotten tired of seeing the same boring type of cinematic trailer fight scenes where it's just 1vs1 on a battlefield and absolutely nothing happens around them, go for it! :P=P |

Looking nice so far
![]() Those textures look too good to have come straight from the Source engine though, and I thought you had created them at first ![]()

While your watching Star Wars stuff watch the Clone wars shorts done by cartoon network by gendy....in there is a segment of clone troopers storming through a city. their manorisms and communication are very intricate and detailed. you might find some fun tidbits from that.

Thank you for your support guys. I guess I'll go for the chaotic feel then, and let's see what I can achieve with it...
I'm not very familiar with the animation part, but maybe I'll have some friends helping me out ![]() @Kage - Yep, I worked out the textures a bit, added some details and Bump + Displacement maps... I think it works quite good for an animation project, with motion blur and deph of field stuff (PC killer renders ^^) |

Very cool project, the crate looks very good aswell. I would of used new textures myself as giving a feel of what it could look in current/future generation but you are defiantly adding alot more detail and realism to the scene.

Hey, this is looking very nice, but this being a game level design its bound to be low poly, so where the magic comes in is the textures, now you didnt make them so where is the passion in this project, i think you should scrap the ones you got free and make your own, you will only get better from working on it. but overall its nice.

@nexusbird, this is not a game level design. It's a full 3d render project, animation and all will be created insinde 3dsmax. It is quite high poly right now, about 100k polys just for the ground, with all those smoothing interations and stuff. The reason I didn't make the textures is that I ain't as skilled as people at Valve ^^ That is, I would never do the game any justice with my textures. What I'm doing is simply re-modelling the scene, adding displacement maps, bumps, details, etc.
@Dutch12345 and Shinix - Thank you, I'll try to keep up the work. About the animation thing, I was thinking about some sort of first-person animation..He would be a last-man standing soldier, that would successfuly recover the bomb from the terrorists. What do you reckon? |
