Which Halloween?
so here is my idea, we can either go with a halloween based character with limits close to or the same as the last comp, or we can go with a halloween based environment.
Or we can do both. What I mean is, we can have two comps at once, each with their own thread/brief. Then it would just be up to you to pick the one you want, or you could do both. |

What could be cool is having a good tri count, and do "whatever we want" with this, I mean, some kind of scene, environment, and if we want, put some character in it... Just another suggestion!
If we have to chose, I'll choose an environment! But I will love everything since it's a halloween low poly comp !

I'm going with environment. I'd have said both but I don't think we get enough entrants to warrant running 2 separate comps.
I know this probably isn't the place to mention it but I was voting away last night and it occurred to me that the current scoring system could be a little shaky. Scoring 3 marks out of 10 and then adding the points up relies heavily on everybody having the same standards - which we don't. Some of us might be very generous with our points, others may not and this could easily unbalance the scoring . Also, having specific areas to vote on can cause very good entries to come out worse in voting than their quality suggests - bad presentation can knock enough points off a really good model to place it behind a merely above average model Would it not be fairer for voters to list their top 3 (based on how good they think the whole package is) in order and then award 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd? just a thought ![]() |

It might be cool if people were paired w/ who do the environment and who would do the character for example someone could do jason and another person could do crystal lake. Just a thought, but thats probably way to complicated.

poopipe: your right, but then, if you keep modeling big breasted "females" you will never be wrong.

well I voted for both to but I guess having one or another makes more sense. It would be nice to some environments though...

To be honest, I have not seen a decent turn out for any enivornment comps to date. Loads of people enter and never finish as it really is quite demanding. There is a massive one going on now and it looks like only 20 people are going to finish out of 250. Those are not good odds. Just my thoughts anyway.
Regarding the halloween characters, would we be able to do existing ones, like off films etc? I would really like to make a freddy with the last comp specs.

how about a low poly count for both combined. so we do a character in a lil environment set of his. e.g. texas chainsaw massacre character with his basement environment setting with his table with a blades. kruger in a room with a bunch of doors. witch with a cauldron.
also a lower poly count like 2000 or so for both combined, so ppl finish it. |

HI all!
In my country we don't have a Halloween selebration day,(we have something similar, selabrated on the first of January you can see few pics on these links http://www.novinar.net/data/2008-03-...229_0038_d.jpg http://www.novinar.net/data/2008-01-...128_0008_d.jpg http://svejo.net/img_story_custom/3/30669-big.jpg http://www.4coolpics.com/pics/0183/160910183340.jpg) but I have seen a lot of mooves on this topic and I personaly think it is all about the dresing up and so I guess the better idea is to create a character, maybe with some really basic environment so we can say this is not just the serial zombie or a wich, it is the creature on halloween. Maybe the sceen should wook more like a greeteng card, something scary and at the same time funny... Last edited by Beriadan; 19-10-2008 at 10:13 AM.. |

why not have both BUT limit the style EG only 'Day of the Dead" style skeletal chars. I like the South American Day of the dead skeletons. They;re cool and have so many different styles.

maybe include both charcter and pedestal in the polycount and voting? that way people can weight the detail towards their favoured aspect .
