#26(a) The Haunted - Environment
Low Poly Mini Contest #26a Subject – The Haunted - Environment ALL WIPS AND CONCEPTS ARE TO BE KEPT IN THIS THREAD. You see that house over there, the one with all the broken windows, rotted wooden boards hanging from the walls. The house that even sunlight is scared of, the house that makes the wind scream. Yeah, that house, I think it’s haunted. For this environment comp, your job is to model a haunted house. It can be cartoony, or real, inside or outside. If you do the inside, it can be a corner of a room, or the whole thing. For the outside, you can do either the whole exterior of the house, or just the front yard. Just make sure it’s scary. Have Fun! Judging: We will be trying out a different judging method this time, you will pick what you believe is the top 3 entries. First place gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, 3rd place 1 point. The person with the most points when the voting is over, wins. DUE DATE: November 23rd, 5 weeks and a few days from today! 11:59 pm GMT - SUNDAY Idea: Make a scary Halloween based haunted house. It can be the inside, or the outside, or if you want to get fancy, do both. Poly limit: 50,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 50,000 Tri Limit. Remember, the limit tells you where to stop, there is no minimum, so use as much of the limit as you see fit. If you create a pedestal, there is no tri limit Textures: (2) 2048 x 2048 texture. This means (2) 2048 for color, (2) 2048for bump, (2) 2048 for normal, (2) 2048 opacity, so on and so forth. You can chop it up into whatever you want, but you still need to go all out in your texture. Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do. Prizes: (only available with 6 or more final entries) 1st Place gets the following: - 12-month subscription to the 2DCreative magazine - 12-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine 2nd Place gets the following: - 12-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine 3rd Place gets the following: - 6-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine Final Pictures: Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry): - 1 x Winning pose shot. (best angle) - 1 x Beauty shot(s) of your environment, Feel free to put multiple angles of your environment or just one big version or your environment on this page. Even better, try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the Winners' Gallery. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you. - 1 x wire frame shot of your environment. Feel free to put multiple wire frame shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you. Must have polycount included. - 1 x texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet. - Concept Sheet (if you have one) A Final Entry Thread will be up and waiting around the end of the third week/beginning of fourth week. Don’t forget to submit your work by posting it in the final thread. Good luck everyone! BiG ToE.

i've got a pretty good idea of what i want. its gonna leave a lot to the imagination, which is often more freaky then seeing a hand or blood everywhere. i'm gonna make a pretty small scene, so i can cram in loads of detail. ( dun wurry bigtoe, there will be blood.. )
ooh, and a bunny...

Hmmm, I have an idea but it might push the rules a little bit... Guess I'll have to sketch some parts out and see if it's ok...
@Big Toe: I'm assuming you will be updating the text about the submission requirements or at least being more flexible on the criteria? One of each image type for a complex environment might be a little limiting, particularly legible wireframe shots... Last edited by Perversonality; 21-10-2008 at 02:33 PM.. |

nice...
![]() not read the rules completely.. but was a little unsure about the texturing... am i supposed to have one texture that completely unwraps to everything... or when i display my textures am i supposed to give an overview of what i used.. like throwing the compositions into a one jpg and showing them?? |

i think you can use a maximum of two 2048 maps
i made a wee concept attempt. the bunny came out surprisingly good ![]() gonna add some more stuff, like cobwebs, some more doors, candle holders on the wall, crooked floorboards, etc. question tho. if i make me wee lill' bunny, can i enter him as a character? cuz, that would be cool ![]()

COunt me in!
I'll try to do both character and environment! For the environment, i'll certainly choose some kind of haunted mansion / colonial house! I'm not sure 'bout the character, maybe some cartoon one, since I don't have any cartoon character in my portfolio!

Tank[NL]: yeah, you can do your bunny for the character comp, and use him in this one as well.
Perversonality: changed it. As for the wireframes, just use a shaded wireframe screen grab, its super easy to understand whats going on that way. |
