Comp 27b Here They Stand
Low Poly Mini Contest #27b Subject – Heaven’s Healers vs. Death’s Dealers ALL WIPS AND CONCEPTS ARE TO BE KEPT IN THIS THREAD. For centuries, Healers and Dealers have used this land as their battleground. Today is no different, here they stand. For this pedestal comp, your job is to model a stand that represents either Heaven’s Healers or Death’s Dealers. The style you choose is completely up to you, but just like with the character comp, your stand needs to be easily viewable as a Healers stand or a Dealers stand. Have Fun! Judging: You will pick what you believe is the top 3 entries. First place gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points, 3rd place 1 point. The person with the most points when the voting is over, wins. DUE DATE: January 4th, 5 weeks and a few days from today! 11:59 pm GMT - SUNDAY Idea: Make a stand for either a Healer or a Dealer to stand on. Poly limit: 20,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 20,000 Tri Limit. Remember, the limit tells you where to stop, there is no minimum, so use as much of the limit as you see fit. Textures: (2) 2048 x 2048 texture. This means (2) 2048 for color, (2) 2048for bump, (2) 2048 for normal, (2) 2048 opacity, so on and so forth. You can chop it up into whatever you want, but you still need to go all out in your texture. Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do. Prizes: (only available with 6 or more final entries) 1st Place gets the following: - 12-month subscription to the 2DCreative magazine - 12-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine 2nd Place gets the following: - 12-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine 3rd Place gets the following: - 6-month subscription to the 3DCreative magazine Final Pictures: Required In The Final Post (1 post per entry): - 1 x Winning shot. This image should consist of your pedestal depicted in it’s most awesome angle. - 1 x Beauty shot of your pedestal. Feel free to put multiple angles of your pedestal or just one big version or your pedestal on this page. Even better, try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the Winners' Gallery. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. It’s up to you. - 1 x wire frame shot of your pedestal. Feel free to put multiple wire frame shots or just one big wire frame shot on this page. It is up to you. Must have polycount included. - 1 x texture sheet that includes all your used sheets squeezed into "one" sheet. - Concept Sheet A Final Entry Thread will be up and waiting around the end of the third week/beginning of fourth week. Don’t forget to submit your work by posting it in the final thread. Good luck everyone! BiG ToE. |

I think that's probably going to be the case for most people entering the character contest... Expect a late rush

Yeah, I'll be doing a pedestal as well no doubt, I'll just be using this part of the comp as an excuse to make it a good bit fancier than I normally would, and get a bit more of a taste for enviro work.

Well I'm with you guy's my goal is to have two characters for the part a comp, and a base for both for this one. Not sure if I will finish the characters completely first or move back and forth as needed. I may just model everything then go back and texture. Ether way, the goal is to have an entry for both competitions.

Question, can I create a pedestal, while adhearing to the rules of this thread and still use it for the final presentation of my Healer in the character thread?
Cheers~

Wow, this thread is quiet. Not to wake the dead but heres my idea: So I have my concept all set for the pedestal. It will be stone with a few steps up. In the "top" center will be a rectangular dias upon which an ancient tome will be laid open. Was the paladin was perhaps reading the text for a way to defeat the dealers once and for all, or casting some sort of spell? On the floor and on the dias will be devotional candles softly burning away. Cheers~

Sounds like a cool idea Novian. Some sort of sacred study or shrine would be perfect for one of Heaven's Healers. I would imagine lots of white marble and stuff....very clean.
Hopefully I have time to finish my pedestal. I've focused so much on the character that the ped is a bit neglected. My plan right now is to make a small section of a dark graveyard with an open grave from which my abomination was just raised. My original idea for my character was that he was a mighty warrior who died a horrible death in battle. He has just been raised and mutated by some wizard's dark magic in order to spread death and chaos. Not super original, I know, but we're on a tight deadline here. |

Novian - Sounds like a solid idea. Only one problem I can...there is no way to defeat the Dealers.
![]() Buzzy - No need to always be super creative, sometimes solid execution is enough. Couple a solid pedestal with your character and I'm sure you'll be fine. It'll be a mighty big hole that your character crawled outta no doubt. Guess I'll break the ice. Been pickin' at this for the last couple nights while I let my Dealer stew around about. I'm figuring some murky swampy kind of setting, with a bridge, and a traditional looking gateway of sorts. A bridge of souls/gateway type of thing, cliched as far as the eye can see no doubt, but it'll have to do. Polycount's at 19.5k now, but I'll probably redo the roof in favor of tidying it up some and reducing the poly count, and I'll certainly need to extend the bridge some.

Nice one Warlock. I was thinking that you could remove the bridge from the 'exit' side, and place it on the front to get that longer bridge - seeing as your going for a dimesional gate, there'd be no need for something to walk on
Someting that could work for elongating the bridge would be to flare/taper it out towards the camera, it'll make it seem longer but the effect may get ruined because of the detail on the rails. |

Heres a quick sketch I did for my pedestal, since she can control sea creatures it'll be mostly water with a rock with glowy runes on aroundit, and then a large octopus emerging from the ocean behind her

Joseph Pomeisl - You know, my original idea was to have a dimensional gateway element, but I decided against that, I'm just going to let the bridge fade off into the fog, so I'll actually need more bridge behind the gate than I will in front of it I think.
Once I get it finalized, I can take all the bevels and reduce the number of sides/etc on thinks that are on the back side/far away from the camera tho, so that'll free up a lot of polys I think. I might give the taper on the bridge a try, but like you said, the railings will probably put the kabosh on that. silverflame - Sounds interesting. Maybe you could give her a throne on the rock as well?
